Distribution of the SCHMIDT family in Germany:
SCHMIDT is one of the the most frequent surnames in Germany. There are 241,549 SCHMIDT listings. Since the surname, which means "smith" originated in many different places from the occupation (i.e., blacksmith, etc.) it is not surprising that there is no localization of this name. However, see also the name SCHMID, which also is extremely frequent, but does show significant localization.
